KVM Tweaks for CentOS

Below are various tweaks which can be made to your system with CentOS installed. These tweaks will provide additional performance and/or stability.

CentOS 6 x64

Tuned

Install and configure the tuned service to optimize for systems running as a virtual guest.

yum -y install tuned
chkconfig tuned on
tuned-adm profile virtual-guest


Mount Options

Add the following options to your root partition in /etc/fstab:

noatime,discard,barrier=0

Packaging

Install the epel-release package in order to allow installation of common packages not including within the default repositories:

yum -y install epel-release

CentOS 7 x64

Tuned

yum -y install tuned
systemctl enable tuned
systemctl start tuned
tuned-adm profile virtual-guest

Mount Options

Add the following options to your root partition in /etc/fstab:

Packaging

yum -y install epel-release
